Spotlight on Presenting Committee Member: German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern United States
We are pleased to welcome, once again, The German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern United States (GACC South) as a member of the Presenting Committee of the Environmental Trade Mission™ 2010. The GACC was founded in 1978 to promote and support bilateral trade between Germany and the U.S. GACC South is a private, non-profit organization and serves as the official representative of German trade in the Southeastern US.
Germany has been at the forefront in developing clean technologies over the last forty years. It is a critical sector of the country's manufacturing sector, and the GACC actively promotes Clean Technology by regularly organizing and participating in events which help German companies access the North American market for green products and services.
Recently, this spring, there were three highly successful events. One took place in Germany in Berlin, and two in the USA, one in Atlanta and another in Austin, Texas. In March, in Berlin, at a two day conference called German American Energy Days, presenters shared information on current trends and support frameworks within the U.S. energy market and how renewable-energy companies could benefit from them. In April, in Austin, Texas the focus was wind. Wind Boom in Texas - The 2nd German American Wind Energy Conference. This April event brought German and American businesses together to exchange ideas and experiences, and to learn more about the latest technologies and developments related to harnessing the power of wind. Also in April in Atlanta, the GACC hosted an expert luncheon on bio-energy, featuring the managing director of the Renewables Energy Agency in Berlin and political and economic decision makers from the Southeastern United States. This event promoted bioenergy technologies that are "Made in Germany" and promoted the advanced state of the German bioenergy industry. The event was sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi). The business building efforts of the GACC continued well after these conferences as the GACC organized one-on-one meetings between American and German companies who were interested in doing business in both sustainable energy sectors.
Prior to The Environmental Trade Mission in November, the GACC is organizing two important Green business building events. The first planned for September in Atlanta is focusing on the conservation of water through new innovation by American, German and Japanese companies. Greener Atlanta is pleased to be a sponsor of this event.
On September 21, the German American Chamber Commerce of the Southern U.S. (GACC South), JETRO (Japanese External Trade Organization) and the Japan Chamber of Commerce Georgia have organized presentations by two Georgian companies leading the way in water sustainability practices. Hansgrohe and TOTO will discuss their water conservation manufacturing methods and products that will be essential to Georgia's newly formed Water Stewardship Act. Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue signed into law Georgia's Water Conservation Act on June 2, 2010. The legislation bans outdoor watering between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and requires new buildings to be outfitted with high-efficiency toilets, shower heads and faucets beginning in 2012. Georgia now have the most progressive water conservation policy in the nation. In order to discuss new sustainable water practices, JETRO, the GACC South, and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Georgia will host the forum The Georgia Water Challenge - Water sustainability showcase presented by local German & Japanese manufacturers on September 21 from 5 - 8 pm at 999 Peachtree Club, Atlanta. For more information on how you can participate, please contact Ms. Silke Miehlke at the GACC South in Atlanta at (404) 586.6804.
And lastly, before The Environmental Trade Mission™ 2010 the GACC will hosting The German American Energy Forum in Washington, DC. The event is still being organized, but to learn more please contact Mr. Carsten Jacobi at the GACC South in Atlanta at (404) 586-6827.
The GACC's leadership in the aforementioned events should enhance its recruiting efforts for The Environmental Trade Mission™ 2010. The GACC is actively recruiting some of the most cutting edge companies in Germany to showcase sustainable technologies during The Environmental Trade Mission™, so you can look forward to meeting with a variety of businesses with innovative products and services.
We spoke with Carsten Jacobi, Consultant, U.S. Market Entry Services, Project Coordinator Renewables at GACC South and he explained why his organization supports Environmental Trade Mission™. He said "The German American Chamber of Commerce supports the ETM because it facilitates the convergence of both the German and the American environmental technology sectors. Germany is a leader in this field and the United States is emerging as the largest market for clean technologies and energy efficiency. There are many synergies spanning the Atlantic and the ETM is an excellent platform for the initiation of international business relationships." More can be found at www.gaccsouth.com.
A special thank you to the German American Chamber of Commerce for their continued support in helping the ETM 2010 meet its goals in bringing Clean Technologies to the Southeastern U.S.
