Spotlight on Presenting Committee Member: Consulate General of Canada
The Consulate General is proud of its role as a lead partner presenting the 2010 Environmental Trade Mission and Conference 2010. Canada is strongly committed to working with the United States on their joint stewardship of a shared environment.
The Consulate General works with corporations and organizations on innovative programs such as the 2010 Environmental Trade Mission and Conference to promote its commitment to environmental awareness and sustainability throughout Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. As such, it’s no surprise that more than 15 Canadian companies were successfully recruited to attend the conference. It should be noted that Canadian corporations will represent the event’s largest international delegation.
Canada’s Commitment To Clean Energy. Canada and the United States share the largest trading relationship in the world – more than $676 billion in 2008. Similarly, Canada and the United States share the closest energy relationship in the world. Canada is the United States’ largest and most secure supplier of electricity, oil, natural gas and uranium.
Canada is strongly committed to clean energy practices. Canada has a comprehensive and rigorous system of environmental regulation at the federal and provincial levels, and collaborates with US counterparts on the science and methodology behind Canadian standards – considered among the best in the world. Through the Clean Energy Dialogue, our two nations collaborating on clean energy and smart grid technology development to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and address climate change.
Canada is committed to growing its renewable energy portfolio, making its energy production and use cleaner by increasing energy efficiency, expanding renewable energy production and reducing environmental impacts from conventional sources. The Canadian Government has introduced numerous initiatives including $1.5 billion invested to increase Canada’s energy supplies from renewable sources such as solar, tidal, hydro, wind, biomass and geothermal power.
Consulate General Recruitment Effort Built On Strong Ties, Past Successes. Given the Consulate General’s role in promoting trade and investment links, including science and technology partnering, the office eagerly embraced a lead role in the launching of the Environmental Trade Mission and Conference.
During the 2009 inaugural conference, 13 Canadian companies participated. For 2010, 16 Canadian companies have confirmed their participation, including Filterco (www.filterco.qc.ca), a returning environmental services company from the 2009 conference. As the worldwide emphasis on environmental sustainability continues, we are pleased that the Consulate General will play a key role.
Beyond its trade and investment promotion role, the Consulate General also advances academic and cultural ties between Canada and the U.S., and assists Canadians living and visiting the southeastern U.S. The Consulate General’s territory includes six southeastern states -- Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
